Georgian Foreign Minister familiarized the foreign diplomats with the incident with the Russian helicopters
Today, in the Georgian capital, a meeting of the Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze with foreign diplomats was held. As reported by "Georgia-News", Deputy Minister informed foreign visitors about violations of airspace of Georgia by Russian military helicopters which, according to the Georgian side, took place September 7 this year. "The Georgian side emphasized that this fact is another violation of the ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008 and that the invasion of Georgian airspace is aimed at further escalation of the situation in Georgia" - was said in a message of Press and Information Department of the Georgian Ministry.
The meeting at the Georgian Foreign Ministry was attended by ambassadors of the USA, the UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, France, the heads of the EU and Georgian delegations and the EU Monitoring Mission (ECMM).
The representative of the Georgian Foreign Ministry urged foreign diplomats "to give an adequate assessment of the fact of violations of Georgian airspace and to exert pressure on Russia to fulfill the requirement of the cease-fire agreement and to respect the fundamental norms and principles of international law".
Recall, September 8, the Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement which claimed that three Russian military helicopter "MI-8" violated the Georgian airspace.
The incident occurred on September 7 at 13:05 local time near the mountain village Shatili, in the gorge Thani. Russian helicopters, according to Georgian Foreign Ministry, went deep into the territory of Georgia by three kilometers. They were in Georgian airspace for 15 minutes.
