"Free Georgia" has stood up for kids in preschools in Tbilisi
Oppositional "Free Georgia" demanded today to defer payment of kindergartens in Tbilisi. According to the oppositionists, they have information that, in case of payment failure, thousands of children will be expelled from kindergartens. As recalled by "Georgia-News", the Agency of kindergartens and nurseries of Tbilisi have set a deadline of tuition fees in kindergartens on September 10. "Thousands of children will be expelled from kindergartens if their parents can not pay till September 10, so the first thing we demand is to extend the payment period, and then - the abolition of this fee" - said the deputy chairman of "Free Georgia" Bejan Gunava in an interview. He recalled that according to the decision of Ministry of Education of Georgia, kids should study during at least one year in kindergarten, otherwise they will not be enrolled in school.
However, the head of the City Department of social service and culture Mamuka Katsarava issued a denial of information of "Free Georgia". "Pre-school education is not mandatory under the Constitution. This educational process is voluntary" - said Katsarava in the air of Radio "Palitra". He explained that the Agency of kindergartens and nurseries of Tbilisi will extend the payment date on an individual basis.
"The payment process is being continued and it is not known how many people was not able to pay. The Agency of kindergartens and nurseries of Tbilisi will extend payment date for parents who can not pay the fee until 10 September on individual basis" - concluded Katsarava. He recalled that education in schools and kindergartens in Georgia in 2011 will begin from September 15.
