SOCAR has announced the stocks of "Absheron" gas field
According to the first vice-president of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Khoshbakht Yusifzade, descovery of the field "Umid" last year, and recently - the field "Absheron", showed that Azerbaijan is rich in gas reserves. This position was announced by representative of SOCAR today at a press conference.
He has also published data on stocks of the new gas field "Absheron". According to it, the potential reserves amount about 350 billion cubic meters of gas and 45 million cubic meters of condensate. Accordingly, the proven gas reserves in Azerbaijan rose to 2.55 trillion cubic meters, said Yusifzadeh.
If the French company Total, operating in the field, will be waiting for a new rig to drill a second exploration well, then the gas production at the field will start in 2021-2022 years, said Azeri official. However, the company intends to drill a sidetrack of the first exploration well from a depth of 4000 meters. If they will get a good result during drilling, Total can immediately establish fixed platform. This will accelerate the start of gas production for five or six years, said vice-president of SOCAR.
Recall, last week it became known that in Azerbaijan a large gas field was discovered. This was announced Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in television broadcast.
"... French leadership of Total, when I have met them, gave me an information on the detection of large gas reserves at the field "Absheron" at the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. In turn, I want to bring this good news to the people of Azerbaijan. Detection large of stocks of gas reserves at the field "Absheron" is a large contribution to the development of gas potential of Azerbaijan" - said Aliyev.
The field "Absheron" was discovered in the 1960s by Azeri geologists. However, given the depth of the water, that time we had no opportunity to carry out work in this field. As a result of the oil strategy of Azerbaijan, as a result of policies initiated by Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan's capabilities have significantly increased. Currently, we have such rigs, which can carry out drilling and exploration work in any part of the Caspian Sea" - said the Azerbaijani president.
