Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia: Sarkozy is interested in a visit to Sakartvelo
According to the deputy head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry Tornika Gordadze, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has a personal interest in a visit to Georgia.
"French President's visit to the South Caucasus, during which he will come to Georgia, is very important. As you may recall, it was he was a mediator during the Russian-Georgian war. Three years later, Mr. Sarkozy is interested in a visit to Georgia himself" - the "GHN" quoted Georgian Deputy Minister.
In turn, the Georgian side expects that the French president will support Georgia in the way of European integration, the Georgian diplomat added.
"We enjoy the support of Central Europe. But position of players in Western Europe is very important. We expect Mr. Sarkozy to support us in the European integration" - said Gordadze.
Recall, on the eve it became known that the visit of the French state in Sakartvelo will take place in about a month. The presidential plans were mentioned in the story of TV "Rustavi 2", dedicated to the visit of Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Vera Kobalia to France.
In 2008, the President of France, together with President Dmitry Medvedev, signed an agreement which finished the conflict in South Ossetia.
