Georgia and Russia are discussing WTO
Today in Switzerland, representatives of Georgia and Russia hold the fifth round of negotiations on the terms of Russia's accesion into the World Trade Organization (WTO). According to "Business-Georgia", this information was released to reporters by Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze. According to him, the Georgian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze.
As Kapanadze stated in a recent interview, Tbilisi insists on transparency of trade processes along the Russian border with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. To implement this goal Kapanadze has spoken about the need for prior exchange of information on turnover and, in addition - the establishment of a mechanism of international monitoring of these areas.
Recall, earlier today, Georgian Ambassador to the U.S. Temur Yakobashvili, Washington does not put pressure on Tbilisi to make concessions to Russia on WTO accession. This position was expressed by ambassador today during a traditional meeting of the Georgian diplomats, accredited in various countries, and international organizations, which is held in Tbilisi, the "GHN" said.
"The U.S. position is simple - they support Russia's membership in the WTO, as it is more civilized form of relationship, but there is no question that Russia must necessarily become a member of this organization. The U.S. has two very clear positions. The first - if Russia wants membership in the organization, then she must negotiate with Georgia, the U.S. is not going to bring Russia to WTO themselves, and the second - Americans support the principles of consensus, approved by the WTO" - said Yakobashvili in a statement.
