Yakobashvili: Georgia can get any U.S. weapon
Georgian Ambassador to the U.S. Temuri Yakobashvili argues that Washington did not give up the idea of delivering weapons to Tbilisi.
"I will not tell you details on the arms supply. Specific comments are not in my competence. But there is no embargo by the United States" - VZGLIAD quoted the words of Yakobashvili.
As the diplomat said, the only obstacle to getting modern American weaponry by Georgian army, including heavy weaponry, is solely at the financial level. "It depends only on the financial capacity of Georgia how serious and modern weapons of a defensive type Georgia will get ... In case if we want America to sell us the tanks "Abrams", the sole problem is that we have not enough money for this" - said Yakobashvili.
Recall, some American politicians have repeatedly stated the need to restore the interrupted supply of weapons to the Georgian army. For example, during a meeting with Mikhail Saakashvili in March this year the U.S. Senator John McCain declared that Georgia should be able to "defend itself from the future Russia's assault". "The Georgian people should be able to defend themselves against aggression, and therefore the question of deliveries of defense armament to Georgia is my priority as well as a priority of few congressmen" - said McCain.
