Georgian Patriarch has consecrated the temple which will "protect" from Russia
Georgian Patriarch Ilia II has conducted the consecration ceremony of the new monastery of St. Archangel at the border with Russia, at Daryal gorge.
As reported by VZGLIAD, a complex of 12 Orthodox temples will be constructed here. Earlier, the Georgian Patriarch said that the emergence of this monastery near the border with Russia is not accidental. "It will be the protection of Georgia" - he said.
Earlier, the President Mikhail Saakashvili said that Georgia has already restored more than 500 churches. He said this during a visit to the restored monastery complex of Gramy.
"While some say that the Georgian government is fighting with the Georgian church - we have already restored more than 500 churches in the country" - he said.
"The restoring of Gramy is a historical act ... The issue of rehabilitation of this important historical center was resolved during a meeting of government two years ago" - Saakashvili said.
