"Gruzpatent": Russia has to recognize 37 of our brands
According to the head of the National Intellectual Property Service of Georgia Irakli Gvaladze, Russia, among other countries, has to legally recognize 37 Georgia's brands, patented by "Gruzpatent". As reported by Trend, according to Georgian officials, an agreement to protect brands, signed by Russia and Georgia in 2004, may serve the basis for this.
As Gvaladze noted, despite claims by the Russian side that it does not recognize the decision of "Gruzpatent", it will still have to comply with the terms of bilateral agreements. According to the official, Russia has to recognize several types of cheese, khachapuri, chacha, churchkhelas, etc. as the Georgian brands on legal grounds.
"Rospatent", however, argues that the protection of 37 Georgia's brands does not apply to Russia.
Recall, on the eve, it became known that the National Intellectual Property Service of Georgia has patented 30 national products, including - khachapuri, chacha and suluguni.
"Recently, we were faced with the problem of theft of the Georgian national brands in Eastern Europe and especially in Russia, where there happened several attempts to register the brands "sulguni" and "khachapuri". This fact creates a problem when registering a product produced directly in Georgia" - said Irakli Gvaladze in the air of TV company "Rustavi 2".
He added that the registration of national brands will continue in the future. "First and foremost, we have registered the names of products, but in future we intend to register other national brands" - said the head of "Sakpatent".
Earlier, Georgia managed to regain the trademark of popular wines "Khvanchkara" which at one time was appropriated by the U.S. Patent Office "Dozortsev & Son". However, as reported by the "GHN", this was preceded by a series of trials with the U.S. Patent Office by "Dozortsev & Son".
However, after the Georgian side's arguments, an agreement between Georgia and "Dozortsev & Son" was reached. On this basis the company has returned the trademark to Sakartvelo without payment of the sum by the Georgian side.
In addition, according to this agreement, "Dozortsev & Sons" will be eligible only for the distribution of "Khvanchkara" and only from those manufacturers which produce this wine in Georgia.
