Germany supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group on Karabakh
According to the German Ambassador to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt, one of the issues of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is possible political consequences for those who takes the initiative of mutual concessions. As reported by Trend, such position the Ambassador announced today at a press conference in Yerevan.
"In 1997, Levon Ter-Petrosian, apparently, was ready to settle the conflict on the basis of mutual concessions, what, apparently, had a certain political consequences for him" - Armenian media quoted Schmidt's speech.
"In order to eliminate the ambiguity in the issue of position on Nagorno-Karabakh, I note that Germany supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group. With regard to the principles of international law, they must be considered only in the same plane" - said ambassador.
He also added that "hierarchization" of one of the principles over the other will cast doubt on the neutrality of the Minsk Group as a mediator.
Recall, the conflict between the two South Caucasus countries - Armenia and Azerbaijan - over Nagorno-Karabakh appeared in 1988.
