Sergey Lavrov: In 2008, Georgia used military force against Russia
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia had to protect its citizens intervening in the conflict in South Ossetia in August 2008.
"There was an attack on our citizens in South Ossetia since most people had a Russian passport and thus Russian citizenship" - Baltija.EU quoted Lavrov.
He added that Georgia had attacked not only Abkhazians and Ossetians in South Ossetia, but also Russian peacekeepers who were located there. "And since peacekeepers are the official representatives of the state, in fact, Georgia used military force against Russia. And I think that forcing Georgia to peace was a lesson for others" - said the Russian Foreign Minister.
Recall, after the armed conflict in South Ossetia in August 2008, escalated by the Georgian authorities, Russia, acted on the side of Tskhinval and recognized the independence of RSO and Abkhazia.
Later, Moscow's position was supported by Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru.
