Sakartvelo and Azerbaijan will jointly protect protect their brands
Georgia and Azerbaijan intend to sign an agreement on mutual protection of geographical names and trademarks. This was reported by "Georgia-News" referring to Azerbaijani media. As the chief adviser of the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan Beka Chkheidze explained in an interview, this document will help to protect the copyrights of national brands and trademarks.
"Currently, Georgia and Azerbaijan are working on an agreement on mutual protection of geographical names and trademarks. I hope that soon it will be prepared" - said Chkheidze.
Georgia has already patented nearly 30 national products and trademarks. These include khachapuri, chacha and churchkhela, recalled the diplomat. He added that this also applies to geographical names and trademarks.
"The product is not protected adequately only by the protection of geographical names and the spread of counterfeit products it is no secret." "The mineral water "Borjomi" has also been patented for the same reason" - he said.
The products under Georgian name should be produced only from products imported from Georgia on the basis of certain unique national prescription, said further Chkheidze, citing the example of Georgian wine, which should be produced exclusively from grapes grown in Sakartvelo.
