U.S. encouraged Russia on the WTO accession
According to the U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, Russia can join the World Trade Organization (WTO) by the end of 2011. As reported by "Georgia-News" referring to RIA Novosti, Kirk announced such position on the eve during a meeting with First Vice Prime Minister of Russia Igor Shuvalov. This meeting was held in Washington. At the meeting, among other issues they discussed the process of accession of Russia to the WTO.
"Kirk was confident that the remaining issues, including result of bilateral negotiations between Russia and Georgia suitable for all, could be resolved so that Russia could achieve ... accession to the WTO till the end of the year" - noted in the report of American Trade representative. It was circulated after the meeting.
"We had a very constructive dialogue on the process of Russia's joining the WTO. Russia has made significant progress. I look forward to working constructively with the vice-premier Shuvalov and others (government officials) in Russia until the successful completion of WTO accession" - said in Kirk's statement. "Negotiations (on WTO) came into the final phase" - concluded Kirk.
It is worth remembering that Russia is negotiating on accession to WTO for the past 17 years.
