The head of Trialeti tries to meet with Sarkozy
On the eve, the director of Georgian TV company Trialeti Jondi Nanetashvili received notification from the Embassy of France in Georgia. As reported by "Georgia-News", the notification states that his request for political asylum in France will be sent to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
"Representative of the Embassy met with me and promised me that he will give my appeal to ambassador who in turn will deliver today this appeal to President Sarkozy", Nanetashvili told reporters.
He added that he asked him to give a few minutes to meet with French president, who arrives today in Tbilisi, in order to "personally explain the situation in the country". The President has a tight schedule, answered in the embassy, but they will try to help him.
Recall, the company Trialeti broadcasts from the city of Gori of Shida Kartli region in eastern Georgia. Trialeti's TV-programs are watched by about 450 thousand people. Trialeti is one of the first independent TV company in Georgia, broadcasting since 1990.
Nanetashvili Jondi, who is the founder and director of the Georgian TV company Trialeti, sent his appeal to the President of France for political asylum in this country the day before.
"I believe that senior officials of Georgian authorities, possibly on the orders of the president, put pressure on me and TV company. In connection with this, my life is in danger and I beg to present to me political asylum for the safety of my family. Please help me to avoid danger to the lives of my family. I also ask to help me to avoid forced sales of channel Trialeti, so that Georgia managed to save another means to express freedom of speech and truth", said Nanetashvili in a statement.
"In Georgia there is no democracy! In Georgia, people are not free, and fear reigns in the country. I do not know what sould I expect in connection with this letter and how they will payback for it, but I have no other way and you are my last hope", exclaims Georgian journalist.
