Recall, Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya was killed October 7, 2006 in the entrance of the house on Lesnaya Street in the Russian capital. The killer shot her four times and then fled. Later three persons were accused of the murder: Sergei Khadzhikurbanov, Dzhabrail and Ibragim Makhmudov. Another person - the employee of FSB Pavel Ryaguzov - is charged with abuse of office and extortion.
In 2008, the court acquitted Sergei Khadzhikurbanov, Dzhabrail and Ibragim Makhmudov, but after the application of Politkovskaya's family in 2009, the case against Ibrahim and Dzhabrail Makhmudov and Sergei Khadzhikurbanov was returned to prosecutors for further investigation and the combination with the case of Rustam Makhmudov and other unidentified persons.
In August 2011, official spokesman of Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin said that investigators had an information about the alleged customer of Politkovskaya's murder. However, Markin considered premature to reveal this information.
In memory of the deceased journalist, in October 2009, by decision of Tbilisi City Council one of the streets of the Georgian capital in Vake-Saburtalo district was named after Anna Politkovskaya.
