"New Right" are storming the barriers of Georgian media market
On the eve, in Sakartvelo, they announced the preparation of a new legislative initiative aimed at overcoming the artificial barriers that exist in the Georgian media market. As reported by "Georgia-News", members of Georgian political union "New Right" are the authors of this initiative. As one of the leaders of the opposition party Pikria Chikhradze explained in an interview at the opening ceremony of the regional office in Telavi, these initiatives are needed to overcome the acute problems which have become an integral part of Georgia's media.
"For example, in Telavi, a local cable television broadcaster is blocking the Maestro and other cable TV companies in different regions do the same. This issue must be resolved only through legislation", said Chikhradze.
She explained that the initiative consists of three parts. The first - to provide legal guarantees to enable any licensed broadcaster to be included in all cable TV packages without pay for broadcasting. The second - a ban on interference in the editorial and creative process by the National Communications Commission, as well as limiting its functions by the technical supervision and monitoring. Also - simplification of obtaining public information by print and electronic media as soon as possible.
