Iran wants Azerbaijan to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council
According to the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan Mohammedbagira Bahrami, his country will support the election of Azerbaijan as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council during voting on this issue. This was reported by Trend referring to the official website of the Embassy of Iran in the South Caucasus country.
The diplomat noted in a statement that the election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is in the interests of the region.
Recall, in mid-September this year, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared that the fraternal relations between his country and Azerbaijan can't be affected. Ahmadinejad announced this position during a speech in Parsabad at the border with Azerbaijan. Iran is a brotherly country and supports Azerbaijan's independence, said Ahmadinejad.
"We are interested in developing and scaling up relations with Azerbaijan at the border areas", said the Iranian president.
