U.S. and Europe were called up to actively support Sakartvelo
An appeal to the U.S. and Europe to increase support to Georgia is contained in the report of the Atlantic Council. As the GHN, the First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia Nikoloz Vashakidze told this to reporters today at a briefing. He explained that on October 13, special working group established under the Council, which deals with Georgia, published a report.
"The report stated that in view of growing external pressure caused by the Russian "occupation" of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and in view of the elections in the country scheduled for 2012-2013, Europe and the U.S. should make more effort to Georgia in order to deepen ongoing democratic processes in the country, including - at the NATO summit, scheduled for 2012", said Vashakidze.
He noted that the report emphasizes that the parliamentary and presidential elections in Sakartvelo will be a kind of "test" for democracy in this country.
"Georgia should continue its commitment to democracy and the U.S. and the EU should double their support for Georgia, including the NATO summit in Chicago in 2012", the report says.
