In Baku, new office of the World Customs Organization started its work
Today, the opening ceremony of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Customs Organization (WCO) on capacity building in the Azerbaijani capital was held. According to Trend referring to the head of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan Aydin Aliyev, this Center will be the office of the World Customs Organisation in Europe.
"The World Customs Organization has divided the world into six regions, and the biggest of them unites 51 countries of Europe and the CIS ... And this center will serve the largest region", Aliyev said.
"There were many countries which want to have this center on its territory, however, they chose Azerbaijan. Of the 174 member countries nobody was against the location of the center in Azerbaijan", said the head of the SCC.
The opening of the center is a great success of Azerbaijan in the customs area, the official added.
He also recalled that the initiative of opening this office in Baku was advanced in 2009 in Bergen, Norway, at the conference of the customs services of the European Region of the World Customs Organization.
