Azerbaijani Foreign Minister: we need a peace agreement on Karabakh
According to the head of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, the two sides of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must continue to work on issues that remain unresolved. Moreover, he said, it is necessary to begin work on a comprehensive peace agreement. According to Trend, Azerbaijani minister stated this during a joint press conference in Baku with the Ecuadorian counterpart Ricardo Patiсo Armando Arokanom.
"Next week, together with the OSCE Minsk Group we'll discuss the overall situation to resolve the conflict and continue to work on the issues of the peace process", said Mammadyarov.
Prior to that, the minister stressed that the forthcoming visit of the OSCE Minsk Group to the South Caucasus region will be aimed at finding a compromise between the conflicting parties. The next visit of the co-chairs should take place before the end of October, he said.
Agreement on certain issues has been already reached between the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but there remain a number of questions that create obstacles in the negotiation process, added Mammadyarov.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries, Armenia and Azerbaijan, over Nagorno-Karabakh began in 1988.
