Shevardnadze: A civil war threatens Georgia
According to former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, if the Georgian authorities do not give billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili the right to vote, then the country will face a civil war. As reported by "Georgia-News", this information was distributed by local media today, citing an interview with Shevardnadze.
Former Georgian leader said in it that they won't manage to prevent Ivanishvili from participating in the parliamentary elections of 2012. "Both, the people of Georgia and the international community want it, and if the authorities do not return him citizenship and do not allow him to participate in the election, a civil war can occur", said Shevardnadze, and added that he believes that Ivanishvili is "savior of Georgia".
"He is very sober politician who has already expressed the need to improve relations with Moscow, what gives us hope", said the former president.
"To restore the territorial integrity Georgia should establish good relationships with Russia. Whether it would be Putin, or anyone else, without Russia we can not return Abkhazia and South Ossetia", he added further.
