The Venice Commission will study the Georgian Election Code
The Venice Commission experts arrived in Sakartvelo with a three-day visit. As reported by Trend, they want to get acquainted with the new amendments to the Electoral Code of Georgia. Georgian opposition expressed dissatisfaction with this document due to the fact that the items on marking voters and equipment of the ballot sites with cameras were abolished. They supposedly somehow put pressure on voters.
However, allegedly members of the parliamentary majority, the idea to remove the cameras belongs to the experts of Venice Commission. Conclusion of the Commission for the year 2010 indicated that the cameras do not violate the secrecy of the vote, but have an influence on voters, said representatives of the parliamentary majority.
Members of the Venice Commission will discuss these and other questions with representatives of the majority and with the Georgian opposition.
It worth recalling that the Venice Commission - is a special advisory body on constitutional law, which was created under the Council of Europe.
