The U.S. and European Union representatives recommends to implement a number of changes to the Labor Code of Georgia. According to "Business-Georgia", today the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Bass announced these wishes of his colleagues during a speech at a conference of the Association of Employers and trade unions.
The U.S. government is clearly supporting fundamental human rights. Tthe right of collective agreements, unions and labor is among them, said Bass. According to him, he often hears the opinion that it is impossible to modify Labor Code of Georgia, but the country still needs to solve certain problems.
In turn, according to the executive director of the International Labour Organization Guy Ryder, the Georgian Labor Code does not meet international standards. The ILO is concerned about the current situation in the labor sphere of Georgia.
However, as the Vice Speaker of Georgian Parliament Gigi Tsereteli responded, the government fully shares the values of the ILO, and understands that the implementation of these standards is very important for Georgia. The official stressed that the authorities seek to liberalize the Labor Code and make it more flexible. They have already made certain steps to do this.
