Manjgaladze: Georgia is in standby mode
At present, the Georgian authorities are in standby mode on proposals which were sent to Russia on the WTO accession. According to Trend, Press secretary of President of Georgia Manana Manjgaladze said this at a traditional briefing.
"During yesterday's meeting of President of Georgia an his Swiss counterpart, it was announced that Russia asked for time to coordinate its position on the proposal of Switzerland, which also agreed to become the third side to ensure issues of border monitoring", said Manjgaladze.
She confirmed that Georgia has agreed to the compromise proposal of Bern on the terms of Russia's accession to the WTO. "For us the main thing is to ensure customs control over the progress of goods at the border areas Psou (Abkhazia) and Roki Tunnel (South Ossetia), which are out of our control", noted the President's press secretary.
Recall, on the eve, in the capital of Adjara - Batumi, Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey met with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. During this meeting, the head of Switzerland, country which acts as mediator in negotiations between Russia and Georgia on Russia's WTO accession, briefed his Georgian colleague about the reaction of the Russian side from the statement of condition of Russia's accession to this international organization, prepared in Bern.
