Georgian Foreign Ministry responded Russian GRU
Today, Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a special statement, which contains a commentary to the statement by the Chief of the Main Intelligence Department of Russia Alexander Shlyakhturov, which was made public yesterday.
According to Georgian Foreign Ministry, Moscow makes "irresponsible steps" by this statement. "Statements by high-ranking Russian officials about possible military provocations from the Georgian side must be considered in the context of the traditional aggressive policy of Russia", said Georgian Foreign Ministry in a statement.
"Georgia expresses its strong protest against the irresponsible and adventurous steps of Russia and Russia needs to stop the militarization of "occupied areas" of Georgia and immediately begin the process of de-occupation", the document said.
Recall, on the eve, Cheif Intelligence Agency of Russia (GRU) issued a warning that in case that Georgia starts "new military provocations against Russia and its allies", the Agency will carry out a "prompt response". As reported by "Georgia-News" with reference to RIA Novosti, such a statement was made by Chief of the Russian GRU Colonel-General Alexander Shlyakhturov. He also denied previous allegations of the Georgian authorities in address of Russian secret services of organizing provocations against South Caucasian countries. It is "absolutely untrue", said Shlyakhturov.
