On the eve, the head of Georgian law enforcement agency Vano Merabishvili told in an interview to on-line Ukrainian edition "Segodnya.ua" told about the success of his agency in recent years. As reported by "Georgia-News" quoting the Ukrainian edition, in this interview Merabishvili, in particular, said that before the new leadership came to power in Georgia, many of the issues were tackled by so-called "thieves in law". "Until the Rose Revolution many of the issues were tackled by so-called "thieves in law", said Merabishvili. He said that the situation with organized crime in the country at that time was very difficult.
"In Georgia, there were two times more "thieves in law" than in other former Soviet countries. In addition, the Georgian thieves were very rich and influential. They solved the problems of black business, returned stolen goods, regulated criminal disassembly", said the Minister.
He added that even now the most authoritative "thieves in law" were born in Georgia. Among them - Father Hassan from Tbilisi, Tariel Oniani, Kalash, Tariel Kutaisi.
According to Merabishvili, all those, who have committed crimes under the previous government, are now in jail.
