Ilia II stands for returning Georgian citizenship to Ivanishvili
On the eve, the head of Georgian Orthodox Church, Patriarch of All Georgia called for the return of Georgian citizenship to billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili. As reported by "Georgia-News", Patriarch announced this position on the eve, during a sermon at the Cathedral Sameba (of Holy Trinity).
"Today we can here a lot of talk, whether Bidzina Ivanishvili there should be citizen of Georgia. Of course, he must be citizen of Georgia because he is the Georgian", said Ilia II.
"Every Georgian who was born in Georgia or abroad, and who is a Georgian by his body and soul, is a citizen of Georgia and he must be a citizen of this country" he said.
"I am very concerned about this simple question, which caused such unwanted controversy. I am confident that Georgia's President Mikhail Saakashvili would take this into account, and would return citizenship of Georgia to Bidzina Ivanishvili", said Patriarch.
Recall, October 11 this year, the Civil Registry Agency of Georgian Ministry of Justice issued a statement saying that businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, who intends to establish an opposition party in Sakartvelo, as well as to participate in the parliamentary elections in Georgia in 2012, is no longer a citizen of the republic. "Under the Constitution of Georgia and the 32nd article of the law "On Citizenship of Georgia", if a citizen of Georgia takes citizenship of another country, it automatically causes a loss of Georgian citizenship", agency Interfax quoted the Agency.
