The Commission on Pardons will meet in Tbilisi
Today the Pardon Commission under the President of Georgia will hold a meeting in Sakartvelo. As the Comission member Elena Tevdoradze said in an interview to Trend, November 23, the country will mark the holiday Giorgoba - in honor of St. George. In honor of this holiday, Georgian government announced another amnesty.
"We have already recieved the cases of convicts who were offered to amnesty. Among them, there are people who have committed minor crimes, as well as severe and moderate. We are obliged to consider all requests, and the Commission will decide who deserves mercy", explained Tevdoradze.
They have already received 300 applications for pardons, including applications from 44 women and 11 minors, she specified. These cases also contain a cover letter and recommendations from the management of prisons and colonies.
The Commission will adopt the appropriate decisions on these cases. Further they will be sent to the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili for his signature. Apart fromthe Commission on Pardons, the Patriarchate of Georgia will send its suggestions to the president, added Tevdoradze.
