Georgia does not confirm plans to create a new state bank
Today Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia Vakhtang Lezhava made a statement in which he denied reports that Georgia will create a new state bank. This question is not considered in the government, said Lezhava. "The Georgian government is not considering creation a new state bank", the GHN quoted the Prime Minister's chief adviser.
The other day some media reported that the Georgian authorities considered the idea of creating a new state bank. As was mentioned in the report by "European Bank for Reconstruction and Development" (EBRD), with support, in particular, of the experts of this structure, there is already being prepared a feasibility study (FS) of the project. The country's leaders are identifying projects that have great potential in the sectors, which need government support to overcome the complexities of the market.
According to the highest echelons of Georgia, a new state-owned bank may help to stimulate economic growth in the country. For this, a new banking structure should have a strong management infrastructure, as well as to act for commercial banks.
