TV "Trialeti" asks Saakashvili for help
Today, the employees of the Georgian regional TV and Radio Company "Trialeti" circulated an open letter to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. In addition, the copies of these letters were sent to the Governor of Shida Kartli Georgi Tatishvili and member of the Georgian Parliament. As reported by "Georgia News", the document points to the facts of pressure on the company, but also calls for cooperation with all democratic forces in the country.
"The building democratic institutions begins with accessible information and transparency, which is virtually inaccessible to us. Bureaucratic and artificial obstacles do not allow us to receive specific information and submit it to the audience", said the authors of the letter.
Further, they note that they have experienced such a pressure several times, and this letter serves several different purposes.
"Despite the different forms of pressure (including undisclosed criminal cases and unpunished criminals), we want to publicly offer cooperation. We feel that TV belongs to the people, and we remind you this. You lead this nation, so we offer you our broadcasting time. You will have the opportunity to comment those specific questions in our issues and to take part in a talk show in order to answer the questions that the people has got and those we can answer", stressed in the letter.
TV Company "Trialeti" is a source of objective information, the authors point out in the letter. They noted their desire to ensure that everyone could equally express his positions on TV.
"I hope that you'd consider the citizens' interests and recommendations of civil and international community and would lift unannounced, but real regime of boycott against "Trialeti", said the management of TV "Trialeti" in its letter to the president of Georgia.
