Georgian journalists are suing the Ministry of Internal Affairs
The representatives of Tbilisi City Court are preparing to consider the suit of Georgian journalists against the law enforcement agency of the country. According to Trend, a lawsuit was initiated by a number of journalists, victims of the violent dispersal of an opposition rally on May 26 this year in downtown Tbilisi.
As the court explained in an interview, the case against the Georgian Interior Ministry was filed by a 7 staff members of 6 medias of Georgia: "Netgazeta", "Guria News", "Batumelebi", "Chohatauris Matsne", "Akhali Ambebi" and "Radiocenter". The interests of these journalists are presented by the lawyers of Young Lawyers Association.
The plaintiffs are going to receive from the Ministry of Internal Affairs compensation for the moral and material damages, which are estimated to be 5500 GEL.
Recall, the tragic events took place in Tbilisi on the night of May 26 this year, when the police, using rubber bullets and tear gas, dispersed a protest action of "National Assembly" in the center of Tbilisi. As a result, two people were killed and more than 100 people were detained.
