Ilia II was not going to arrive in Yerevan
The office of the Georgian Orthodox Church denies rumors that the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II was to arrive in Yerevan to attend a meeting of religious leaders of the South Caucasus.
"The visit of His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II in Yerevan to attend a meeting of religious leaders was not planned. We do not know where the Armenian media got information that Ilia II will take part in it", Vesti.az reported the comment of the source in the GOC.
It is noted that such a reaction of the Georgian clergy was associated with the statement by the Head of Information Center of Echmiadzin Vahram Melikyan that the Armenian side has not been notified of the reasons for refusal of Ilia II to visit Yerevan.
Recall, today the head of the Department of Muslims of the Caucasus Sheikulislam Pashazade arrives in the Armenian capital. He will attend a meeting of the Presidium of the Interreligious Council of the CIS to be held in Yerevan on November 28 and 29.
As expected, the next trilateral meeting Allahshukur Pashazade, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and the Armenian Catholicos Karekin II will be held within the meeting. The parties will discuss ways to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
It is worth recalling that the Inter-Religious Council of the CIS was formed on 3 March 2004. It is a public organization created by the traditional religious associations of the Commonwealth.
