In Georgia, it will soon be allowed to change last names
It became known that the Georgian Parliament received a new bill, under which the residents can, if desired or necessary, to restore their historic last name. According to the GHN, the bill stipulates that any citizen of Georgia, after the law enters into force, would be able to restore his name, which was changed for any reason.
As explained in Parliament, to ensure that data on the name change takes effect, the citizen will have to address the civil registry with the relevant documents. These documents must certify that the name was realy changed.
As expected, the law governing the opportunity to restore the historical last names will be considered by the Georgian parliamentarians this week.
