Ankvab wants to return the customs at the Georgian-Abkhaz border
On the eve, the president of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab suggested legalization of goods entering the country from western Georgia. According to Ankvab, the turnover of goods across the border should be carried through customs control. As reported by "Georgia News" with reference to RIA Novosti, Abkhazian president announced his opinion at a news conference in Sukhum. Ankvab said: "Despite the prohibitions of the Abkhaz authorities, during many years, individuals have been smuggling the goods, mostly fruits, vegetables, clothing, furniture, utensils and other consumer goods from Georgia".
"It's not a secret that in the stores and markets, there are a lot of fruits and vegetables, consumer goods, illegally entering from the Georgian side. The state has no income from this trade", the president added. He explained that at this time, there is no accounting of goods crossing the Georgian-Abkhazian border. At the same time, some citizens get profit from this", he said.
Ankvab has positioned himself as a supporter of the return of customs at the border with Georgia, and he said that in the near future, the location of customs check points will be determined.
