Saakashvili: Europe is sweet home for Georgia
On the eve, Georgian leader Mikhail Saakashvili made a statement saying that he sees no alternative to the European Development of Georgia. According to Trend, the president announced his position during his speech at the 20th Congress of the European People's Party, which is held in Marseille. The event is attended by senior politicians and leaders of Europe.
"For Georgia, Europe is a family, where we long strive as one of the oldest European nations", Saakashvili said. Later in his speech, Saakashvili again complained about the "occupation" of Georgia by Russia and noted that Russia still does not comply with the ceasefire agreement, signed with the EU.
Next, head of Georgia touched the issue of relations with the EU. He said that despite some difficulties, Georgia continues to strive to become part of the structure. "Europe will find its way out of the crisis, but we won't enter a Eurasian Union, since we know it is past and we lived in the USSR, which they're trying to revive", emphasized the Georgian President.
