The political career of Zurab Zhvania started in 1989, after he created "green" movement and then the Party of "Greens" in Georgia.
In 1993 he became general secretary of the coalition party, the Citizens' Union of Georgia. In 1995, after winning the election, Zhvania became chairman of Georgian Parliament. He held this position until November 1, 2001. He resigned because of a number of disagreements with Eduard Shevardnadze.
After Georgia was headed by Mikhail Saakashvili, Zhvania was appointed Minister of State and in 2004 - Prime Minister of Georgia.
But on the night of February 3, 2005 Zhvania was found dead in one of apartments in Tbilisi. In the same apartment there was found the body of the then deputy governor of Kvemo Kartli region Raul Yusupov.
