Saakashvili: Georgia will join the EU
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said that his country will become the EU member in few years.
According to "Rosbalt", Saakashvili made a statement, which confirmed the desire of official Tbilisi to join the EU, at the opening of free trade agreements with the EU. He added that Georgia's European partners also talk about it.
He said that the talks on visa-free regime with the EU, starting in the spring, will become a "psychological turning point of Europe towards Georgia". "When at the inauguration in January 2004 we raised the flag of the EU, that time it caused ridicule, and some have not even believed it. They believed that we fantasized. Then the majority of Europeans said that this is not Europe from a geographical point of view, this is another development, another space, another sphere of influence and we have nothing to do in Europe", he added.
We note that recently the Prime Ministry of Georgia Nikoloz Gilauri said that the begining of negotiations with the EU on an agreement on deeper and comprehensive free trade means that Georgia will become member of the EU.
"This day confirms that Georgia has become a full member of the European Union since the free trade means economic integration of Georgia into the EU", Gilauri said.
He stressed that none of third party can interfere into relations between Georgia and the EU.
