According to information made public today in Baku by the head of the European Union Delegation in Azerbaijan Roland Kobia, the EU will continue to actively participate in maintaining the peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. As reported by Trend, according to Kobia, 2011 was important in terms of involvement of European institutions in this conflict.
"There were also many direct and indirect requirements for the EU to participate more actively in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This was an occasion for the appointment of the EU Special Representative, Ambassador Philippe Lefort, who has a mandate to support and assist the OSCE Minsk Group", Kobia said.
He added that Lefort was appointed by High Representative of the EU for the Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton precisely in order to emphasize the EU's attention to this troubled region.
"During his visit to Azerbaijan Ashton confirmed her readiness to help to rapid and lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict", Kobia said.
