John Bass welcomes the deepening of cooperation between Georgia and the U.S.
The U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Bass welcomed the deepening of relations in the defense sphere between Tbilisi and Washington, the GHN reported.
"I'm not familiar with the final version of this document. With regard to cooperation between the U.S. and Georgia in defense sphere, it is clear and healthy co-operation, which is based on our common beliefs and values", Bass said.
On the eve, the U.S. Congress voted to deepen military cooperation with Georgia in connection with this Tbilisi can get new weapons alsp from other NATO member states, "Georgia News" reported.
Note also that a relevant provision is included in the Pentagon budget bill for 2012. The document is already approved by the House of Representatives and the U.S. involves the sale of defensive arms to Tbilisi. It is sent for signature to President Barack Obama.
The U.S. lawmakers urge to provide the government of Georgia the support in protection of sovereign territory. Moreover, the Congress members believe that the Obama administration must convince the authorities of other member countries of NATO and partner countries to restore sale of military equipment to Tbilisi.
It should be noted that Russia has fiercely opposed the sale of arms to Georgia after the 2008 war. However, in the U.S. Congress there has formed an influential group of Tbilisi supporters. Thus, the eternal critic of Moscow Sen. John McCain stands for the resumption of arms supplies to Tbilisi.
