Saakashvili believes the ECHR decision successfull
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said that decision of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg on the suit against Russia "concrete progress", VZGLIAD reported.
The European Court of Human Rights declared admissible the interstate lawsuit of Georgia against Russia. The lawsuit of the Georgian government against Russia was handed over to the European Court in August 2008. Tbilisi accuses Moscow of violating several articles of the European Convention on Human Rights, including rights to life, security, respect for the home and property protection.
The hearings on the admissibility of the claim took place on September 22. Further work of the court on this case was conducted behind closed doors.
Press speaker of the President of Georgia Manana Manjgaladze said the decision of the ECHR was "concrete progress and achievement of the Georgian side".
"The West continues to give a legal assessment of Russia's aggression. We hope that the Georgian side will succeed in consideration of this case", the press speaker of Mikhail Saakashvili said.
