Churov is delighted from the past elections to the Duma
The CEC Chairman Vladimir Churov believes that the recent elections to the Russian State Duma of the sixth convocation turned out the best elections in recent years.
"I want to thank you for the best campaign for the election of deputies to the Duma for nearly 20 years in accordance with the Constitution of 1993", Churov said on Thursday at a meeting of the Central Election Commission, referring to the chairmen of election commissions.
"This year we had a very open, very public, very well-organized campaign not only in country but also in Eurasia as a whole. No country can boast of such elections, that we managed to conduct", Churov added.
At the meeting the CEC chairman said that he hoped to honourably conduct the upcoming presidential campaign in March 2012. "We have enough money, all the documents. The list of nominated candidates is prepared. We have everything, including the public attention", Churov said, according to RIA Novosti.
Elections to the State Duma were held December 4, 2011. The party United Russia won with 49% of the vote and got 238 seats in the lower house of parliament. Another 92 mandate went to the Communist Party, 64 - to "Fair Russia", and 56 - to Liberal Democratic Party. Today Duma Speaker became the former head of Russian Presidential Administration Sergey Naryshkin.
The observers have recorded numerous violations at the past parliamentary elections, but the CEC chairman Vladimir Churov and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has expressed doubt that fraud had taken place. United Russia's victory caused protest action against ballot rigging. Rallies were held in major Russian cities and in several European capitals, the RBC reported.
Last week the European Parliament called for re-election of Russian State Duma and encouraged to raise the subject of elections in talks with Dmitry Medvedev. In the Kremlin, they have advised Western politicians to go deep into the issue of salvation of their own finances and the very foundations of Eurofinance EU.
