Kaminski conceded defeat in the presidential elections in Transnistria
Chairman of the Supreme Council of Transnistria Anatoly Kaminsky lost in the presidential election to his rival Yevgeny Shevchuk, representative of electoral headquarters Sergey Melnichenko recognized.
"The gap between the competitors is significant, allowing us to talk about the defeat in the second round. We took the second place", Melnichenko said.
On Monday morning, a source in the Transnistrian CEC said that the former speaker of the local parliament, leader of the "Revival" Yevgeny Shevchuk became the new president of Transnistria in the second round. According to him, he has collected 73.88% of the vote, his rivals - the head of the local parliament Anatoly Kaminsky - 19.67% of voters, 4.45% voted against all.
CEC promises to make public preliminary official results of the second round of presidential elections in Transnistria at 10.00 local time (12:00 GMT). As told by the CEC head of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic Petr Denisenko, "the Commission will not delay the final official results - they will be published in three days," RIA Novosti reported.
The first round of presidential elections in Transnistria took place on 11th of December. According to the results, Shevchuk and Kaminski scored 38.55% and 26.3% respectively. The sensation of the first round was the fact of the defeat of the permanent leader, the incumbent president Igor Smirnov, the head of the republic for 20 years. He took third place with 24.66% votes and was eliminated from further struggle for the presidency.
Note that Kaminsky had previously said that if he wins he is ready to offer Shevchuk to become prime minister. "The biggest portfolio will be offered to Yevgeny Shevchuk. 40% of the people's trust is a high level. I am willing to negotiate with him", Mr. Kaminsky stressed.
