Media: Aliyev and Sargsyan attacked each other with their fists
The Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan have almost fought at the reception in honor of the 20th anniversary of the CIS, held on December 19 in Kremlin, organized by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, the newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak reported citing sources in Moscow.
The fact is that during awarding of medals to diplomats from each CIS member country on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Commonwealth they were to have the consent of all Heads of State, but when it came to Armenia (Armenia nominated deputy minister Shavarsh Kocharyan), Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev opposed this. Deputy Foreign Minister was left without a medal, while Serzh Sargsyan has not opposed during voting on the award to the representative of Azerbaijan.
Later at the table, Ilham Aliyev began to reproach Serzh Sargsyan on the occasion of their candidate and spoke insulting with remarks against Kocharian. Aliyev thus wanted to make clear that public criticism of the Armenian Deputy Minister of the leadership of Azerbaijan does not contribute to the resolving of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"Serzh Sargsyan failed to stay in debt and started to respond Aliyev in his manner, saying that it was chief of Presidential staff of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani diplomats, who hamper the process. It came to that Serzh and Ilham stood up and began to push each other and took fighting position. Only after Medvedev's remarks - "Well, gentlemen, what are you doing!" they returned to their seats. Aliyev gritted his teeth, and Sargsyan threatened saying "you'll see what we'll do", IA REGNUM quoted newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak.
Official Yerevan has already reacted to the publication. Press Secretary of the President of Armenia Armen Arzumanyan called its "absolute nonsense". "Of course, at such meetings nothing similar can happen. As for the issue of awarding the representatives of the CIS countries, I would note that Azerbaijan did not present a list of candidates for the award", Mr. Arzoumanian said in an interview to the online edition of Mediamax.
