Diasamidze: during the year Adjara was visited by more than a million tourists
More than a million tourists have visited the resort of Adjara in 2011, said the chairman of the Department of Tourism of the Republic Vaja Diasamidze, the agency "Georgia News" reported.
"For the Department of Tourism and Resorts the last year has been quite productive. The number of tourists over the past decade has surpassed one million for the first time. Also for the first time there have been set commercial charter flights from abroad", said Diasamidze.
According to him, during 2011, in the region there have been created new tourism products and developed appropriate infrastructure. In the Batumi airport and at the Georgian-Turkish border at the checkpoint "Sarpi" there were opened tourist information centers. There also have been issued thematic maps, which help the guests to get acquainted with Batumi and Adjara.
"Batumi received the Order of the American Academy as the best resort. The project "Batumi-velo" should be especially noted: there was created a special infrastructure, and soon everyone will be able to move over the city on bicycles", said Diasamidze, adding that these types of tourism would remain a priority in 2012.
