The head of Abkhazia congratulates Shevchuk with assumption of an office
The president of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab congratulated his new colleague - the head of Dniester Moldavian Republic Yevgeny Shevchuk on assuming the office, RIA Novosti reported.
"Your election to the highest office in the country was a sign of trust and support of the citizens of Transnistria. The Republic of Abkhazia and the Dniestr Moldavian Republic have been developing the cooperation on many fronts for many years", said in Ankvab's letter of congratulations.
Following the second round of presidential elections in Transnistria, held on December 25, ex-parliament speaker, leader of the "Revival" Yevgeny Shevchuk scored almost 74 percent of the vote. The former head of Transnistria, Igor Smirnov, who was the head of the republic for 21 years, got out from the election race after the first round.
December 30, 2011, Yevgeny Shevchuk officially took office. The inauguration ceremony of the elected president of PMR was held in Tiraspol.
