The body of the seventh victim of the shipwreck "Costa Concordia" found
The death toll after the disaster with cruise ship "Costa Concordia" increased to seven people, Fontanka.Ru reported on Tuesday citing Agence France-Presse. The rescuers found the body of another victim in the morning January 17. According to recent reports, 28 people are missing. Previously they reported about six deads, five of which have been identified.
Also today, it was reported that tourists from the city of Barnaul, Maxim and Olesya Benkovsky, were on board of the sunken ship, TV Vesti reported. The couple managed to save their lives. As they described after arrive to Moscow, even when the ship got holed and the lights went out, the captain announced that it was "just a problem with electricity". Therefore, during evacuation, four lifeboats had not been launched.
Recall, the ship "Costa Concordia" sank on the night of January 14 near the island of Giglio. On board there were 4234 people, of whom more than three thousand passengers, including more than 100 Russian tourists. All the Russians who traveled on "Concordia" contacted the Russian consulate after the crash. Among the victims there are citizens of Spain, Italy, France and Peru.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the accident was mistake of captain Francesco Skettino, who was accused of manslaughter, as well as in violation of rules of behavior in an emergency. In particular, the captain has left the ship before the end of the evacuation of passengers. Skettino was arrested, Lenta.ru reported.
