Nino Burjanadze is ready to meet with Prokhorov

2012-01-19 18:53

One of the Georgian opposition leaders Nino Burjanadze has highly commended the statement of Russian oligarch Mikhail Prokhorov about the need to intensify the negotiations between Moscow and Tbilisi.

We recall that in an interview to Radio "Silver rain" Mikhail Prokhorov said that Russia needs a different foreign policy. In particular, the politician believes that Moscow needs to improve relations with Georgia.

"If a country wants to be the leader in the modern world, we need to speak the language of reasonable compromise, no matter how hard it is. It is necessary to forget the resentment. If we manage to do this, the relations with Georgia would quickly normalize", Prokhorov said.

As Burjanadze stated in an interview to GeorgiaTimes, she "considers positive every statement about the possibility of improving Russian-Georgian relations".

Burjanadze also did not rule out the possibility of meeting with Mikhail Prokhorov. "Every meeting is interesting, with any politician or public figure. The more people in Russia and Georgia - in politics, business and social circles - who want to strengthen our relationship, the better. I will welcome any statement from both parties regarding the search for ways, mutually beneficial for our peoples and states".

At the same time, Burjanadze expressed confidence that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin would win the upcoming presidential elections in Russia. In her opinion, it will have a positive impact on Russian-Georgian relations and give new impetus for the dialogue between Moscow and Tbilisi.

We also add that earlier Burjanadze noted that the possible return of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at the post of president will greatly enhance Russia's position.
