Margelov: Russia does not need to pay for the recognition of Abkhazia
Special envoy of Russian President on cooperation with African countries Mikhail Margelov called the statement of the Georgian authorities that Moscow offers African countries money for the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, a PR step, Interfax reported.
"The essence of this statement is to try to reach some of the informational gain, associated with preventive of Russia's charges, and, most importantly, to accuse the opponent of anything, because excuses are always less advantageous", Margelov said.
"I am in close contact with other official Russian structures involved in Russian-African relations. And I declare that our country has never offered a single African country money for the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia", Margelov stated.
He added that in African countries, Moscow is interested in prospecting contracts, banking cooperation and modernization of infrastructure of local economies. "That's what Russian officials in Africa are concerned about. In addition, African countries, any countries, are free to solve these problems only on its own initiative", he noted.
