Lavrov: Moscow will help Yerevan and Baku in establishing ties
Russia will become mediator in establishing cultural ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, RIA Novosti reported.
"Baku and Yerevan asked Russia to become initiator of such contacts. Dmitry Medvedev has agreed, of course", Lavrov said, adding that Russia "has always stood for this kind of humanitarian ties and is ready to fulfill the role of mediator for this purpose".
Commenting the results of the trilateral meeting of Dmitry Medvedev, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan, Lavrov said that the presidents " have expressed their belief in the need to establish direct humanitarian, cultural, educational and other contacts between the people".
Such contacts are important to "restore and build confidence between Armenia and Azerbaijan, to create the most favorable atmosphere for the political decision-making", Lavrov added.
