Iran intensifies economic cooperation with Russia
The Iranian authorities intend to expand economic cooperation with Russia, Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said, according to the Interfax.
"We are grateful to Russia, because Russia has used its veto power in Syria. We believe that there is a very good opportunity that Russia and Iran will work in economic sectors in Iran, Iraq and Syria", he said at a meeting with the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia Viktor Ivanov in Moscow.
"There are very important events in our region - this is happening in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan", the Iranian minister said.
Earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Western pressure on Syria was due to Damascus' unwillingness to stop cooperation with Tehran.
"We receive information that NATO members and some Arab Gulf states intend to turn the current indirect interference in Syrian affairs into direct military intervention, acting on according to "Libyan scenario", Patrushev said.
"Clearly, in this case, Syria has become the object of attention of a new "coalition of interests" not by itself. They intend to punish Damascus not as much for the repression against the opposition, as for unwilling to break the alliance with Tehran", he added.
