Iranian physicist arrested in the United States
U.S. authorities have arrested an Iranian scientist - a specialist in semiconductors - and charged him with violating the law on the export of scientific equipment, the Associated Press reported on the night of Friday.
According to documents of the agency, currently, 54-year-old Iranian Seyed Mojtaba Atarodi, who is researcher of the prestigious University of Technology n.a. Sharif, is in custody in a prison near San Francisco.
Embassy of Pakistan, which represents the interests of Iran in the U.S., has confirmed the arrest of a scientist.
According to the agency, a closed-door hearings on Atarodi's case were held on Thursday. As reported by friends of the arrested, he was detained on December 7 last year in Los Angeles.
Representatives of the U.S. government has not issued any official comments. According to the report, Atarodi is the author or co-author of dozens of scientific publications that are not directly connected with military technologies. According to the University of Technology n.a. Sharif, in the United States, the scientist wanted "just to buy equipment for his laboratory and this equipment is very simple, which can be bought by anyone", RIA Novosti reported.
